They are fearless devotees of their deities, and puts themselves to the duty of searching, distinguishing and annihilating the devils and alien races (werewolves, for example) that hide among humans.
They not only devote themselves to their religions, but go further to doubt their own faith, looking forward to sacrificing more and more.
